Wescom Group has announced the opening of a purpose-built safety electronics factory in Hull. This factory will act as a hub for Wescom Group's electronics R&D and will produce the award winning sMRT ALERT Man Overboard (MOB) and the soon-to-be released sMRT SHIELD+ personal locator beacon (PLB) range, due later this year.

The new facility is a culmination of Wescom Group's investment in the brand's product line after the 2022 acquisition of MRT Ltd, which developed the sMRT brand for the offshore safety market. The new state-of-the-art site allows increased capacity of Wescom's current offshore range and will accelerate the delivery of the new innovative sMRT distress beacons for the leisure and commercial marine markets.

Wescom Group Chief Executive Ross Wilkinson said:

"The new facility highlights the positive impact of Wescom Group's investment, both in creating job opportunities in the local community and the new technologies we plan to develop from this site. The award winning sMRT brand of distress beacons manufactured here in Hull will ultimately help save lives around the world."

Ryan Petitt, the site's Managing Director added:

"It's an incredibly proud moment for the team. We have been a Yorkshire-based business since the 1980s and the new Hull factory reflects both Wescom Group's confidence in our future and the demand for our innovative life-saving beacons.

Wescom Group, which is headquartered in Derby, is synonymous with the manufacture and distribution of globally renowned safety and survival brands for the marine and defence industries.
