ILCA South Coast and South East Grand Prix at Lancing Sailing Club

by Simon Mathews 7 Jul 2021 01:38 PDT 4 July 2021

Numbers were limited due to Covid, but thanks to Race Officer Barry Goacher, three superb races with three fleets were completed with 23 entries.

For Races 1 and 2, early clouds lifted and the wind settled to a shifty South West force 3-4. For Race 3, it veered South West force 4 building 5 gusting 6.

ILCA 7

Race 1 - Andy Le Grice (Warsash SC) dominated the ILCA 7s, winning by a significant margin. Close competition for 2nd position saw locals Todd Grady and Craig Palmer having a great tussle with Craig coming out in front.

In race 2, again, Andy Le Grice had a great start and lead throughout. 2nd position went to Todd Grady, chased by Will Apps (Lancing SC) for 3rd place.

Race 3 - Andy Le Grice started well but an unfortunate collision with a tacking ILCA 6 at the final mark allowed Craig Palmer to pass and win. A fine 2nd place went to U18 entry Theo Aers (Blackwater SC), in 3rd, Will Apps.

ILCA 6

Race 1 - Charlotte Videlo (Frensham Pond SC) lead throughout, with Miles Vidler (Crawley Mariners) in 2nd and Jimmy Carter (Lancing SC) dropping to 3rd place after an unfortunate last tack!

In race 2, Charlotte Videlo maintained her lead with superb downwind sailing, but this time Jimmy Carter closed the gap a little. 3rd place went to David Trout (Lancing SC).

As the wind picked up in race 3, a determined Jimmy Carter closed on Charlotte Videlo and passed her for the win, with Miles Vidler 3rd.

ILCA 4

Ed Rollestone (Newhaven & Seaford SC) came an excellent 1st with Cameron Bignold-Kyles (Royal Lymington SC) 2nd and Josie Kelly (Felpham SC) 3rd.

In Race 2, Ed Rollestone won again, with Cameron Bignold-Kyles again 2nd. This time, Ollie Phillips (Royal Lymington SC) got 3rd.

In race 3, Ed Rollestone flourished in the building wind, with 2nd going to Ollie Phillips and 3rd to Cameron Bignold-Kyles.
