The 34th Medemblik Regatta has been sailed from 22 to 26 May 2018. Sailors were confronted with difficult conditions, but the sun made up for it. All races have been sailed and competitions got really close this week. The medal race in boundaries made the races exciting to watch!

It has been a fantastic week for sailors and organization. Joost Brouwer, spokesman of the Medemblik Regatta: "There's one thing you can't plan, that's the weather. We've had some difficult wind conditions this week, but the race committees managed to get all races sailed. We're really happy with the week we've had, the sunny conditions may be made up for the shifty winds."

Spanish Echavarri Erasun and Pacheco van Rijnsoever win Nacra 17

Finishing fourth in the medal race they just secured their golden medal for this Medemblik Regatta. "It's been a fantastic race. We are very happy, and the theatre style racing was good. It was the first time we raced like this with the Nacra 17." Second place is for Gemma Jones and Jason Saunders (NZL) and third place for British John Gimson and Anna Burnet.

"We've had some really tricky conditions this week, we are happy to have raced such a good medal race. This regatta was a great opportunity to race against the Dutch girls and other strong international competitors."

An enthusiastic Cohen shouts when he arrives at his coach. He has sailed a super strong medal race, coming in second after Kiran Badloe. "It was a crazy battle this week. But hard work pays of!" With a sixth place he secures his second place overall. Swiss Eliot Merceron ends the regatta in third place.

Daphne van der Vaart forced herself to win in Laser Radial

For the Laser Radial it was still very close when they started the medal races. Racing close within the boundaries, Dutch Daphne van der Vaart grabs the leading position at the start and keeps it all the way till the finish. "It's always good to win an event", says van der Vaart. "The top girls were missing, but Maxime Jonker is always a tough competitor for me.
