Get out and sail: Your weekly crewing update from MySail

With 8 March being International Women's Day, there have been a lot of stories over the past few days about the role and contribution of women in sailing.

As a female sailor myself, it's fantastic to see how women are making an impact right up to the top end of the sport, as well as the growth of support and programs that encourage more women take up sailing.

One of my favourite things about this sport is that fact that women and men can compete together at an equal level. Gender diversity doesn't just broaden the potential skill set and abilities of the team, but also creates a larger pool of potential crew. With the availability of crew being a constant challenge for many skippers, a growing pool of female talent is one of the ways to safe-guard our sport's future.

For any crew (women or men) who are looking to join a team, here are just a few of the latest sailing opportunities from around the country.

Available Crewing Positions:

Shine On - Sydney, NSW
Sydney 38, 38 foot, CYCA

Shine On will be doing the CYCA Winter series and are considering Port Stephens and Hamilton Island Race week. Originally known as Pitch Black (aka Team Lexus), Shine On is the 36th Sydney 38 build. Last belonging to the former commodore of the Cruising Yacht Club of South Australia, she returned from Adelaide just over two years ago and has been progressively returned to competitive racing trim.

Shine On has a Corinthian crew from diverse backgrounds. They are always on the lookout for enthusiastic, experienced team players who can commit to regular racing, and the occasional Karaoke and rum session.

Irukandji - Sydney, NSW
Northshore 369, 36.9 foot, CYCA, GFS, RSYS

Irukandji is owned by Paul and Steve who share the duties and expenses, not to mention the helm. They like to mix the racing up a bit and last year completed the CYC Winter Series, in which they won Division D.

They keep the boat in pretty good shape with all recent sails and gear. Although they race to win on Irukandji (why else start?), they try to keep the racing light hearted as well.

Irukandji is currently looking for crew for the remaining RSYS summer series races and 2018 CYCA winter series. Their preference is for crew who can commit to all or most of the races.

Joilie Breeze – Perth, WA
S 9.7, 9.5 metre, RPYC

Joilie Breeze sails every Wednesday and Saturday in club races at Royal Perth Yacht Club, located in Crawley, WA.

Joilie Breeze is looking for bow, headsail trim, spinnaker trim or all-rounder crew to join their team on a regular basis.
