Just what any social cruiser would want over summer - a 42ft powerboat than extends to nearly double its size!
Tilli Antonelli, who founded the Pershing yacht company in 1981, recently debuted a range of new yachts under the Wider brand, based in Italy. In his current venture, Antonelli is assisted by Paolo Favilla, formerly General Manager of Grandi Navi Veloci and CEO of Pershing.
The first model was the Wider 42 in 2012. A neat little weekend cruiser, the Wider 42 opens up while at anchor, doubling its 11.6-foot width and dropping sides down to create a stable platform with minimal roll.
The area is equipped with a six-speaker audio system and a table that lifts up from the floor for sophisticated entertaining.
According to its designers, the Wider 42 is 'the prototype, forerunner and symbol of the company as well as the ensign of the evolutionary leap Wider had given its nautical product, accomplishing much in terms of conceptual and technological innovation'.
With a starting price of roughly US$1.12 million, it's the first of three models from Wider, and will soon be joined by the 150 and 122 superyachts in 2014.
The Wider 150 will feature a hybrid propulsion system and wings that fold down from the stern to create a large swim platform.
In 2012, Wider announced a partnership with Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay, an entrepreneur who spearheads the Genting Group, one of Asia’s most dynamic conglomerates.
The company’s composite yachts are built in a 10,000m² structure in Castelvecchio di Monte Porzio, Italy, while the production of its aluminium superyachts takes place at the Ancona facility, a region famous for the skills of its builders.
