P1 SuperStock Series 2011 Match Race launch

'Match racing comes to life - P1 SuperStock Series 2011'    Powerboat P1

P1 SuperStock Series 2011 is currently being held in Madison, USA on the banks of the Ohio River.

The atmosphere was electric today as P1 SuperStock launched their new head-to-head Match Race at the 2011 Madison Regatta. Fans eagerly embraced the new racing format that added a new dimension to powerboat racing and the Madison event which has 61 years of rich history in the boat racing industry.

Team Oregon Custom Marine of the number 15 Panther made history by becoming the first Match Racing Champion of all time. Oregon Custom Marine ran the course extremely well, hitting every turn tightly with ease and quickly crossing the finish line.

With a first place finish in Saturday’s Match Race, Team Oregon Custom Marine earns the pole position of their choice for Sunday’s endurance race.

Team JD Byrider of the number 14 boat finished second, receiving the second option for preferred pole position.
The closest match of the day was in the consolation round between team Peters and May of the number 10 boat and Miss Madison of the 13 boat. The identity of the winner was truly hidden until the final dash for the line, but Peters and May stormed across the finish line just seconds before the Miss Madison boat.

The P1 USA V-Lite Series also saw some action on the water today. The three teams ran one heat that consisted of four laps on the Ohio River.

Typhoon Racing and Pirate Racing were back and forth throughout the entire race and had fans on the edge of their seat until the final lap. Typhoon Racing finished just a few feet in front of Pirate Racing earning them a victory in the first of their three heats.

Global Warmer, the number 42 boat, also ran with the V-Lites and put on a display for the Madison fans who hadn’t seen a boat make such noise since the 1960’s. The 47 ft. Fountain was a fan favorite to the people of Madison with plenty of 'ooh’s and ahh’s' coming from the crowds as the boat stormed by.

On Sunday, both the P1 SuperStock Series and the P1 V-Lite Series will run two endurance races to earn Championship points for the remaining season.

Visit the website tomorrow night for results from the inaugural P1 USA Series event.
