A form of family boating that incorporates an element of friendly on-the-water competition is growing increasingly popular overseas and Southport Yacht Club will host this event on Saturday 28th March 2020.

We have re-floated the Chaos Cup which was originally introduced a decade ago by our Past Commodore Rob Mundle.

The Chaos Cup is also known as the Poker Run, which was created in the United States and is now hugely popular in New Zealand.

Not always the fastest boat wins prizes in the Chaos Cup

A set of guidelines has been developed by a team of enthusiastic Southport Yacht Club members to bring all on-water enthusiasts together in a fun-filled day.

Imagine being out on the water with family and friends and eager fellow boaters, on a structured long-distance run from Main Beach to Dux Anchorage. Sounds Good?

Well add in a game of poker, some big prize pools and the chance to make new friends and you have the makings of a fun day on the water for the whole family.

Then add our Dux Birthday celebrations on the next day and you have the makings of an awesome weekend!

Whether you own a Power Boat, Tinnie, Sailing Dinghy or Catamaran, Windsurfer, Trailable Yacht, Keelboat, Jet Ski, Kayak, Canoe, Para Sailor, Kite Surfer - anyone can enter who can basically travel on water from Main Beach to Dux Anchorage.

We are breaking new ground to incorporate a weekend celebration of our annual Dux Birthday.

The Chaos Cup is simple. The entrant collecting the best five SYC poker cards wins. The beauty is that you don't have to have the fastest boat or be the first to finish to win the big prizes. It's just a matter of having the best hand at the end.

Five SYC poker cards are handed out to participants at various stages before and during the fun-filled day. The holder of the best hand at 2pm at Dux is the winner. The first two SYC poker cards will be handed out when you attend your Compulsory Briefing at 8am at SYC Main Beach.

The remaining three SYC poker cards will be handed out when you arrive at Dux Anchorage.

There are two CA$H Prize Pools on offer:

  • The Chaos Cup Ca$h Prize Pool (TEAMS)
  • The Individual CA$H Hand Prize Pool
The Entry Fee's are:
  • $70.00 per Vessel for entry into the Chaos Cup Ca$h Prize Pool (TEAMS) (You will receive five SYC Poker Cards plus one extra SYC Poker Card for Entry into the Individual Ca$h Hand Prize Pool)
  • $40.00 for any Individual Crew taking part in the Individual CA$H Hand Prize Pool (You will receive five SYC Poker Cards)
THE Chaos Cup Ca$h Prize Pool Teams will be randomly selected at the Compulsory Briefing

Both Entry Fees also include one Entry Ticket to Dux Birthday Celebrations on the Sunday 29th March 2020!

So tell your friends and family - everyone is Welcome at the Chaos Cup!!

The more entries = greater WINNING PRIZE POOLS in CA$H

Don't forget that DUX has BBQ's on-site for your use and you are welcome to bring your own (BYO) BBQ supplies and alcohol for the Chaos Cup.
