Medemblik Regatta Nautical Festival - Day 2

by Medemblik Regatta 22 May 2019 12:10 PDT 21-25 May 2019

It's a difficult day for sailors and race committee. Light and shifty winds kept the RS:X classes on shore for an extra hour. The sailors of the Hansa class manage to race an extra race and the day closes in sunny conditions.

For the Hansa Class it's their first day of racing in Medemblik. The first day the wind was too strong for this class, today it was the opposite. Even a bit to light according to some of the sailors. The Dutch Finy Teitsma, sailing in the Hansa 303, is happy with her first day: "Only the last race wasn't very good. During the race stronger wind shifts came over. I wasn't really prepared for these shifts. At that moment my focus was more on all the water in my boat, less on the course." Fellow Dutchie Nick Kruizinga took his advantage and extended his lead. Teitsma is now second in the overall ranking.

In the Hansa Liberty British David Durston is leading the fleet: "It's very close racing, and the wind is a bit to light for me. But it's fun, I'm happy with the racing here." Vera Voorbach (NED) is second in the ranking and British Paul Phillips third.

The Korean Bongjin Chae and Dongwook Kim build up a lead of 11 points. "Today was tricky with a lot of wind shifts. Racing in the stronger winds yesterday was better for us, but today the sun was out and that was fun too." Dutch Pim Schep is second in the ranking. "We had to get used to each other a bit, that was difficult with the strong winds yesterday. Today was tricky with the shifts and racing close to shore. But we managed to stay in front of the Korean team in the last race, that was fun."

The RS:X starts the day with a postponement due to light winds. Dutch Kiran Badloe keeps the lead after three races, but Sil Hoekstra (NED) is getting closer today. Hoekstra: "It was super tricky today, lots of shifts out there. My first two races went very well, I made the right choices." The gap between him and Badloe is only two points. Spanish Ivan Pastor is in third place overall.

Lilian de Geus (NED), manages to take over the lead of the Italian Flavia Tartaglini in the RS:X Women after two strong races where she finishes first. The Polish Zofia Noceti Klepacka maintains here third place.

The Youth RS:X the number 1 and 2 also switch places on the second day. A strong Fabien Pianazza (FRA) finishes all races first today. The French Yun Pouliquen drops to second place and Leonidas Tsortanidis (GRE), enters the top 3.

Windfoil surfing and Musto Skiff Tomorrow the Musto Skiff will start their event as well as the Windfoil surfers.
