The Marina Industries Association (MIA) Executive Officer Colin Bransgrove has presented the Clean Marina Accreditation to Port Coogee Marina at a meeting of marina industry and government representatives in Perth. Port Coogee Marina is located seven kilometers south of Fremantle on the Cockburn Sound.

Port Coogee Marina has 150 floating pens with a range of boating facilities and direct ocean access. Onshore facilities include dining and shopping. A swimming beach is located on site with BBQ's and playground. Future development plans include an additional 150 pens and added day berthing facilities.

The Marina Manager at Port Coogee Marina, Samantha Standish said "the Clean Marina Program offered by MIA, was a fantastic opportunity to review and implement our safety and environmental practices to ensure Port Coogee Marina is operating at the industry standard. The environmental accreditation promotes accountability for our waterways by staff, boat owners and members of the community. We are proud to fly the Clean Marina flag and would encourage other marinas and yacht clubs to join the program."

Colin Bransgrove said the Clean Marina program was established to help industry lift its environmental standards and to take a leadership position in the protection and promotion of a clean aquatic environment. "We now have marinas across the Asia Pacific region that are embracing the opportunity to pro-actively contribute to a cleaner environment."

Marinas participating in the Clean Marina program are independently assessed with a focus on their operational practices and facilities such as waste water capture, recycling and the systems in place to ensure environmental compliance.
