Australia's presence at Monaco Yacht Show Superyacht Australia
Australia's presence at the Monaco Yacht Show showcased a strong display of the Australian industries ability and capability to service the global superyacht fleet. With the support of Tourism Australia there was also a significant promotion of Australia as a world-class cruising destination offering safe, secluded and pristine waters.

Over the four days of the show Superyacht Australia reports they were inundated with enquiries re cruising itineraries for Australia, questions regarding access to the Great Barrier Reef (anchorages map below) now that this has been opened up to Vessels over 35 meters. This development was met with applause from many Captains who said that not being able to access key areas of the GBR had been a deterrent for owners to cruise there. Abell Point Marina reported increased number of bookings for next season based on these new anchorages now coming on line.

M Edwards CEO Superyacht Australia said” It is amazing the number of enquiries we received on the stand from people simply wanting to visit Australia. A key reason being the considerable iconic tourism attractions, the fact that so many people have heard about our fantastic food and wine, the luxury lodges, the unique walking trails, the world-class golf courses, incredible fishing experiences, events like the Melbourne Grand Prix and Australian Open tennis and the list went on. It was also interesting to hear people calling the South Pacific, the “Safe Pacific” which I imagine it is fast becoming with the incidents happening around the globe.”

Edwards went on to say “MY Glaze winning the Boat International Voyage of the Year Award put the Western Australia region of the Kimberley’s on the map with a number of enquiries re cruising in this area and asking what refit/repair capabilities exist in WA. With three key players from WA exhibiting at Monaco being Echo Yachts/Evolution Commercial, Silver Yachts and VEEM it certainly helped assure Captains that WA definitely had the capability and supply chain to cater for any visiting yachts needs while cruising the Kimberleys. Alongside enquiries from Captains re cruising in this region many individuals who were keen to visit this area were asking about what cruise ships visited the region. We were able to point these people in the direction of True North a luxury expedition cruise ship that offers guests a truly unforgettable experience in this region. True North is unique in its offering and is the only full time vessel in the region with a helicopter on board. It is certainly one of Australia’s best tourism experiences.”

For the first time Tourism Australia supported the Australian Superyacht industry with a shared stand with Superyacht Australia. Australian companies exhibiting include award winning Echo Yachts who unveiled their new Adventure Support Yacht aptly named ‘Project Echo’ designed in collaboration with renowned industry experts Bannenberg and Rowell Design, Triton Submarines and Incat Crowther Naval Architects.; Silver Yachts who will had their 77m M/Y SilverFast on show which is a prime example of Australian Superyacht Manufacturing capability; VEEM who are proud manufacturers of their state-of-the-art Gyro; and for the first time key refit and repair yards – Rivergate Marina and Shipyard, Gold Coast City Marina and Shipyard and The Yard Brisbane in Australia joined forces to promote their world class refit and repair capabilities.

Other key Australian superyacht players present at the show were: 8 Yachts, Acutec Systems, Australian Superyachts, Analu, Abel Point Marina, Boat Style, BSE Shipyard, Carter Marine Agencies, Echo Yachts, Ensign Ship Brokers, Major Yacht Services, Muir Winches, Maritimo, NandJ Australia, Ocean Alliance, Ocean Blue legal, Ocean Media, Pantaenius, Project Identity, Sorgiovanni Designs, Silver yachts, Super Yacht Group Great Barrier Reef, Spear Green Design, Superyacht Queensland, Superyacht Western Australia and Sydney Superyachts.

All exhibitors received considerable enquiries from Captains and Brokers. With NZ winning the Americas Cup this has also added impetus for vessels wanting to cruise in the region. Australian superyacht marinas have already started receiving bookings and enquiries. It does appear Australia is on many peoples bucket list for 2018 and beyond.

Superyacht Australia hosted for the second year in a row a true Australian style breakfast in Monaco for over 70 key industry players to promote the magnificent cruising grounds of Australia and the capability of Australian businesses to service the global superyacht fleet. A highlight of the breakfast was a performance by talented Indigenous Australian entertainers the original Yothu Yindi band member Wityana and his world-renowned son Yirrmal.

Martin Redmayne was the breakfast MC. Martin has been the MC for the past three years at the ASMEX conference the key conference for the Australia Superyacht Industry hosted at Sanctuary Cove each year immediately prior to the Sanctuary Cove International Boat show. The breakfast was designed as an education seminar for captains and charter brokers was packed with representatives from all sectors of the industry. The panel discussion included Superyacht Australia members Trent Gay, Jo Howard, Carrie Carter, Captain Nicholas Smith and Captain Ferdi Hellman.

Key issues discussed were the Ports of entry, the location of superyacht marinas, crew visas, refit/repair facilities and the ability of the Australian Industry to supply services at the highest level as expected by owners on global cruises.

The Australian contingent at the show made the most of every networking opportunity to promote their own business and Australia in general.

It certainly appears that the game is changing down under as it becomes evident to the global superyacht fleet that “Australia has it all!”.
