Splash out on a new suit and a pair of hikers. But seriously I have an old wetsuit which has shrunk in the wash so no longer fits. I'll bring it to the club next weekend and you can have a bit of that. -------------

My wife can make anything shrink. Is the amount a wetsuit shrinks directly related to the amount if pies and lager consumed? -------------

Yes pies and lager do not help the wetsuit fit. You could always buy a drysuit - there is always plenty of slack in those Also does anyone want to take Harry out in mid January on a freezing cold reservoir and see if he only wears hikers ------------- Bonnie Lass Contender 1764 |

March-October wear for South Shields: 1mm neoprene 'rash vest' 2mm shorty, 1/2 length hikers, BA, spray top: NO PROBLEM!! The faster the boat you sail the more you work, the less you need to wear!!, sail skiffs and save money on clothing (you'll need it for all the blocks etc you will ware out )------------- FLAT IS FAST! Getting off the subject a bit... but (and this must be very girlie of me) I
never know what kit to take, so tend to have everything - yes 5 rashies, wetsuit, drysuit etc... my sailing bag is bigger than me and it's beginning to fall apart... Any suggestions for a replacement? Or a strategy to keep my gear down? |

I had a less severve version of your problem , but my dad re-packed my bag, folding, using the corners etc. and voila! there was acres of space left!------------- |

Gael, you could get one of those Henri Lloyd ones with wheels on, look a little pathetic but does not tire your arms out. Personally I stick to my old Typhoon single compartment one and a bin liner for dry stuff, and just jump on it if i can't fit stuff in, percussive maintanance ------------- FLAT IS FAST! Alternatively, dispense with bags altogether and simply fill the entire boot of the car with sailing kit, spanners and spares. However, it will smell foul if that you forget to take out before going to the supermarket on Monday night. Or is that just me? ------------- Fly Cherub! |

That's a great idea!
I tend to drive around with big boat and dinghy kit in my car... but all in one bag, which is definitely looking the worse for wear - quite apart from the fact that being a 'Silk Cut' bag it encourages all sorts of speculation about how I came to be in its possession - the truth being all too boring!

Why don't you take out a couple of subscriptions (yes I know you're the Editor)  - then you get two free bags for your kit and can give the magazines to deserving postees

gael, you should get a trident bag with the dry part in it. i soooo no what you mean about taking everything with you, (it's girl thing!!) my bag is about the same size as me! but i have one that i can actually fit into and do the zip up (i was also carried around in it!!) and no i'm not tiny the bag is HUGE!!

I have a plastic box with lid - useful for putting on wet changing room floors - this has my drystuff in to change into after sailing, then I put my wet kit bag - one from a local sail maker dwon here in the westcountry - which has all my stuff in actually wear on the water in. And useful to put really wet stuff in is a dry bag, so you can seal it up and water stays inside and not all over your car or dry stuff. Also having the plastic box means you can stand on it when putting trousers on after sailing, without having to get the bottoms all wet and ick - sad I know!! But it works!! ------------- A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort. |
