Agree Jim, but by giving everyone the option of a duty in exchange for a 'non excludable' 1st place means that no-one will ever disadvantage their series score (for the majority it would be an advantage). By not doing a duty you could be disadvantaging yourself. There is therefore a positive incentive to do a duty (unless you think you can get straight 1st's anyway!).

Just expanding this concept a little further;

How about having a 'non excludeable' duty race?

If you don't do a duty (in the series) you have at least one non excludable DNS. If you do, do a duty you get a mutually agreed score which you may or may not use.

Would that work?
