Any recommendations on non-chandlery plastic shear pin material?

The one that fitted - knitting needle measurements not my strong point! Currently not using one.

I tried all sorts of materials, including plastic and ally knitting needles years ago when, in my ignorance and out of date knowledge, I thought this was the way to go. How wrong I was. The only way Iíve found to keep the blade where it belongs is via a 2:1 downhaul with a break-out cleat, even on boats slower then the Fireball.
