Rope Clutch or MIni jammer

   Does any one have experience of mini jammers. I'm looking to clutch/jam/hold a main halyard (8mm) on a 23ft boat, and a main downhaul.
Mini jammers are half the price of rope clutches.
Is there is a significant difference in how they do the job?
