Carbon tiller extensions are brilliant, stiff and strong but not necessarily super light. But yes they are expensive so have a look at coarse fishing landing net poles (not, I hasten to suggest, perch poles, they are nowhere near strong enough). I had a fibreglass one on the Spice for a long time, it is about 35-40mm dia, stiff and light and was under £20. I have recently replaced it with a Rooster 25mm Carbon extension, better? Yes. Worth 6x the price, probably not.......

Just to complete this thread, i got a replacement uj a bit of blue water pipe and some insulation tape and managed to do a passable bodge.
