Peter Gilmour and YANMAR Racing look forward to 2012

Peter Gilmour (AUS) YANMAR Racing, five times the ISAF Match Racing World Champion and twice the Monsoon Cup winner, faced Jesper Radich (DEN) Adrian Lee & Partners in the Petit Final of the 2011 Monsoon Cup. A win for YANMAR Racing would have secured third place in the 2011 ISAF World Match Racing Championship. It was not to be, with Radich 2-0, taking third place in the Monsoon Cup. YANMAR Racing finished fourth at the Monsoon Cup 2011 and fifth on the World Match Racing Tour this year. Dockside Peter Gilmour explained ‘In the first race against Jesper we obviously had split strategies and we both got the starts that we wanted and his was way superior. I think in the second race we were both fighting for the right and he did a nice job along the boundary of just blocking us out, so we were left with crumbs. We came into this (event) in fourth and we finished fifth so that is disappointing. ‘I want to thank my crew Simon Shaw (GBR) mainsheet hand and tactician, Yasuhiro Yaji (JPN) pitman, Kazuhiko Sofuku (JPN) bowman and Thierry Douillard (FRA) head sail trimmer for giving it their all. ‘It’s been an interesting series for us. We have had our chances. We were narrowly beaten in the semi-finals, so we were one race away from second on the Tour so it has been an interesting world championship this year - you can go up and down so fast. Now we just need to bring our game up to the next level because the intensity on the World Match Racing Tour is stepping up and up each year. ‘ ‘2012 is going to be an exciting year for YANMAR. ‘It is their 100 year anniversary for the company and we will be looking for a big season on the 2012 Tour.’ Final Monsoon Cup Standings 1 Ian Williams (GBR) Team GAC Pindar 2 Johnie Berntsson (SWE) Berntsson Sailing Team 3 Jesper Radich (DEN) Adrian Lee & Partners 4 Peter Gilmour (AUS) YANMAR Racing 5 Will Tiller (NZL) Full Metal Jacket Racing 6 Phil Robertson (NZL) Team China powered by WAKA Racing 7 Bjorn Hansen (SWE) Mekonomen Sailing Team 8 Francesco Bruni (ITA) Bruni Racing 9 Torvar Mirsky (AUS) The Wave Muscat 10 Mathieu Richard (FRA) French Match Racing Team 11 Damien Iehl (FRA) French Match Racing Team 12 Jeremy Koo (MAS) Abdullah Chan / KRT Final World Championship Standings 1 Ian Williams (GBR) Team GAC Pindar – 144pts 2 Francesco Bruni (ITA) Bruni Racing – 112pts 3 Johnie Berntsson (SWE) Berntsson Sailing Team – 106.2pts 4 Torvar Mirsky (AUS) The Wave Muscat – 105.8pts 5 Peter Gilmour (AUS) YANMAR Racing – 102.8pts 6 Jesper Radich (DEN) Adrian Lee & Partners – 99.2pts 7 Bjorn Hansen (SWE) Mekonomen Sailing Team – 90pts 8 Phil Robertson (NZL) Team China powered by WAKA Racing – 74.4pts 9 Damien Iehl (FRA) French Match Racing Team – 74pts 10 Mathieu Richard (FRA) French Match Racing Team – 72.6pts For more news and information on YANMAR Racing, please visit http://www.yanmar.co.jp/en/racing/ To discover more about YANMAR Marine go to http://www.yanmarmarine.com/ World Match Racing Tour website http://www.wmrt.com Monsoon Cup website http://www.monsooncup.com.my
