Canadian Coast Guard ice-breaker patrolling .. .
Icebreaking operations alongside the north channel of Lake Huron are expected to begin Sunday April 21 near Bruce Mines, Ontario, the Canadian Coast Guard has advised.

A United States Coast Guard ship will conduct the icebreaking operations in order to facilitate shipping in the area.

Any ice on this route should be considered unsafe and the Coast Guard advises everyone to stay clear. The path can remain open long after the ships have departed the area.

The Canadian and United States Coast Guards work in full co-operation on the Great Lakes and Georgian Bay. At the present time, the two Canadian Coast Guard icebreakers on the Great Lakes, CCGS Griffon and CCGS Samuel Risley, are fully engaged in operations on Lake Superior and Lake Ontario.
