277 junior boats attend the 54th Annual Steerers' Regatta at PCYC

The day dawned grey with winds that had been building all night out of the east, which made for humungous waves coupled with a southeasterly breeze of 8-15 knots. A tough bill for junior sailors from across Ontario, Quebec, and New York State.
This annual regatta can only be attended by those youngsters that attend sailing school. It's a bring your own boat event, which included a bring your own tent too for many of the juniors!
Alpha Course was for Optimists, Bravo for double handed (420 club, 420 WS, and 29ers), and Charlie for single handed (Radials and Lasers). This event has become a 'right of passage' for many young sailors as they move through sailing school. Over 350 young sailors took advantage of the opportunity with 277 boats registered from 24 yacht clubs. Buffalo Canoe Club and Buffalo Yacht Club represented the New York contingent and clubs from as far away as Lake of Bays, Stoney Creek, South Muskoka, Royal St. Lawrence YC, and Frenchmen's Bay YC brought a wide variety of sailors togehter.
'The tough conditions made it extra hard for the RC to keep marks stationary and sailors safe,' commented PRO Paul Clissold. Alpha course was able to run 3 races, Charlie course only 2, while the Bravo course posted 4 races with the last two run under black flag.
Racing continues tomorrow to find out what club will have their name etched into the coveted Steerers' Rudder.
