Laser and Radial Canadian Championships at Etobicoke YC
Mon, 25 Jun 2012

Inundated by light winds, PRO Irene McNeill, did her best to get in a final day of racing for the Lasers and Radials at the Canadian Championships at Etobicoke Yacht Club over June 22-24th, but it was not to be. The single-handed sailors were towed out to the race course and then back in after waiting for the wind to fill in for two hours. Three guns with code flags N over H usually signals the wind to come in, but not in this case.

Lee Parkhill from RCYC retained the lead with 10 points spread over seven races with 51 Standard rigs. He also won top Ontario sailor. Brenda Bowskill, also from RCYC, was first in the Radial fleet with eight points over six races and 49 boats. Brenda was also awarded the top female and top Ontario sailor.

There was a wonderful spread of ages ranging from 14 years to 70 years, which speaks volumes for this little one-design, Olympic class boat designed by Canadian Bruce Kirby.

Final results from the Laser Standard Rig

Lee Parkhill (RCYC) - 10 points
Robert Davis (Kingston YC) - 22 points
Keith Davids INavy YC) - 25 points
Evert McLaughlin (RCYC) - 27 points
Greg Clunies (RCYC) - 31 points

Final results from the Radial Rig

Brenda Bowskill (RCYC) - 8 points
William Marshall (Fast Sailing Foundation) - 23 points
Phenix Beaudoin Cloutier (Memphremagog) - 30 points
Madison Gates (Ste. Petersburg YC) - 31 points
Drake Lyon (Bayview YC) - 33 points
