The Boating Industry Association of Victoria today applauded the Victorian Coalition Governments announced recreational boat ramp spending under the 2013 round of the Boating Safety and Facilities Program.

The Boating Safety and Facilities Program is funded from a portion of recreational boat registration revenue collected each year and is administered by the Department of Transport.

'We have reviewed the announced projects and I am pleased to say they are spot on in terms of strategic spending to increase both boater safety and demand in recreational boating,' said BIAV President, Andrew Warner.

'The Minister for Ports Denis Napthine sought the advice of the peak boating and fishing bodies on where the funding needed to be allocated and he has announced 57 projects, a number of which are in our top 10 most needed boat ramp projects in the State.

'Tooradin and Kananook Creek are perfect examples of critical boating infrastructure expenditure that will drive the future growth of the Victorian marine industry by easing demand bottlenecks in recreational boating. The Victorian Coalition Government is to be commended for this.

'It is also particularly pleasing to see funding announced for stage 3b boating safety zones between Elwood and Mt Martha,' said Andrew Warner.
