P1 Champions from both AquaX and Superstock honoured Powerboat P1 http://powerboatp1.com
Powerboat P1 Management drew praise for its excellent contribution to marine motorsport from the sport’s world governing body when UIM President Dr. Raffaele Chiulli attended the P1 Championship Awards Presentation Evening on Saturday night.

Dr. Chiulli was guest of honour at the gala awards evening, held at the prestigious Mercedes-Benz World exhibition and test track complex at Brooklands, Surrey where the champions and teams from P1 SuperStock UK and P1 Aqua X gathered to celebrate the 2012 season in style.

'Powerboat P1 Management is one of the most active UIM promoters and we are grateful for its continuous support for our sport internationally, Dr. Chiulli commented. 'Powerboat P1Management and the RYA, under my tenure as UIM President, have always played a proactive role in developing, growing and modernising our sport.'

The UIM President joined P1 sponsors in handing out the silverware to the winning riders, drivers, navigators and teams from the 2012 season.

Professional racing driver Dean Stoneman (Southampton) added the P1 SuperStock UK title to the FIA Formula 2 crown he won in 2010 and collected his trophy alongside his navigator Dean Paling (Southampton). They also scooped the Team’s Trophy after a dominant season in their Pickfords-backed P1 Panther 250, taking seven wins from a possible eight to secure the title by 43 points.

Ian Brusby (Doncaster) won the Vice Champion Driver’s trophy for his performances at the wheel of the Edox Sports Watches Panther, whilst Typhoo crew Miles Jennings (Exeter) and Andy Wilby (Fleet) collected their Vice Champion Team award.

The youngest award winner in Powerboat P1’s 10-year history was 17-year old Jade Berridge (Hemel Hempstead), who took the third place trophy for navigators in the P1 SuperStock 150 Class. The category was won for the second consecutive year by husband and wife Team Purple Stuart and Sara Cureton (Lindford, Hants).

Among the highlights of the P1 SuperStock ceremony were special awards for Rookie Team of 2012 James Norvill and Jon Collingbourne (both Newport, S. Wales) and the Edox Moment in Time Award for charity Mission Motorsport for its work rehabilitating injured service men and women. P1 250 Racer John Wilson (Coleshill, Birmingham) received a standing ovation from the 200 guests as he received the Sportsman of the Year award.

The gala evening commenced with awards for the riders in the fast-growing P1 Aqua X Championship, topped by 300 Class winner Russell Marmon (Christchurch) who retained his title after a tough fight over the five race events. There were also popular first time titles for Mat Shipley (Seaford) who took the 250 Class and newcomer Khris Leach (Maidstone) who lifted the 200 Class crown. Clio Cup racing driver Paul Rivett (Banstead) collected his first ever title on water by winning the inaugural Sea-Doo Challenge.

Powerboat P1 Management Chairman, Asif Rangoonwala gave a special commendation to close the ceremony by handing over the Spirit of P1 award – presented annually to acknowledge an outstanding contribution to the sport - to the Safety Team of marshals and medical staff. 'I particularly wanted to praise the Safety Team of volunteers who did an excellent job this year keeping our whole sport afloat', Asif commented. 'The P1 awards evening was a fantastic celebration of the 2012 season and we are now working hard to make next year even bigger and P1 AquaX P1 SuperStock website
