P1 AquaX UK Championship - St Lawrence Bay to host finale

A little more than 1000 years ago, St Lawrence Bay was the site for one of the most famous Viking battles in Britain, the Battle of Maldon where the Vikings were successful against the Anglo Saxons, this weekend will see a battle of a different kind to crown the P1 AquaX UK Champion.

There is a close battle going on in the 300 Class against Huddleston, Moule and Tim Batte, with over 50 points up for grabs over the weekend's races anything could happen. Huddleston is currently leading the Championship title bid with a 21 point lead, over Moule and 39 pts ahead of Batte. Huddleston needs to perform consistently to take home the title and he is taking a cautious approach to the weekend commenting 'I've changed a couple of the handling bits on the ski, to try and get a bit more top end speed. I think it's going to be flat water, but I am not going to over do it, I am just going to plod and do enough to finish.' Tim Batte is not content to come third and has been out training and getting his fitness up 'This weekend is going to be about getting the hole shot, not making any mistakes, you will need a good start, if you flunk the start on flat water it is difficult to catch up as everyone is just flat out!'

In the 250 class Mat Shipley has been a dominant leader all season and has secured a comfortable 42 point lead going into this final round. As the current reigning Champion he will be looking to hold on to his championship crown as he needs just eight points to retain the title. Mat commented 'I shall be hitting it hard this weekend right from the SuperPole, I'd like to get the points I need in the bag early then the pressure is off, but regardless I shall be pushing all weekend.' The battle is likely to be harder for second and third positions, Rookie Richard Rowe is currently in second place he has been training hard in the run up to this race and is hoping to finish the season on a high. Duncan Johnstone is in third place just seven points behind but has been plagued with injuries and technical issues all season he said 'Both the ski and I am now sorted, I've never been fitter and I can't wait for the weekend to see what I can do when everything is totally fixed!' It will be exciting to see how this battle unfolds over the weekend. John Heath has already sewn up the title in the 200 Class, the fight remains here for the places.

In the AquaX Cup Russell Marmon will be out to complete his unbroken record of hole shot wins. 'I want to close the season off with 15 out of 15 wins of the hole shots, I have really enjoyed the season, its been great weather all summer which has given us lots of flat water and made the weekends great fun!'

There are five races over the weekend with a return to the stand up classes and a rise in the number of entries with many of the riders doing both races, there will also be freestyle displays by Jack P1 AquaX
