Leading Australian companies and AIMEX members were recognised at the Australian Marine Industries Federation (AMIF) annual Australian Marine Awards in late May.

AIMEX member Riviera was named 2007 Australian Manufactured Boat of the Year with its Riviera 4700 Sports Yacht and also took out the Cruiser Non Trailerable Over 10m category while the Riviera 56 Enclosed Flybridge won the Club Marine Safety Award.

West Australian company and AIMEX member Marina Protection Systems won the Innovative Product category for its Metal Anode. The patented Maddox anode reduces the amount of contaminates growing on propellers bringing better fuel economy. It also decreases the build-up of chloride in heat exchanges and intercoolers resulting in better engine performance.

Marina Protection System’s Brett Maddern says the new to the world technology took three to four years to develop. The Maddox anodes are intended for wood and fibreglass boats.

Other category winners included Steber International (Fishing Non-Trailerable Over 10m).

Many AIMEX members were also finalists or received commendations in the nation’s marine industry awards. Companies included Sunrunner Cruisers, Mustang Marine, Maritimo, Whittley Cruisers and EVRSafe Marine Technologies.

AIMEX chairman Richard Chapman said these prestigious awards showed the calibre of high quality companies who were members of AIMEX.

'We congratulate all the winners and finalists and believe the awards are testament to this country’s high quality export marine industries.'
