Scandanavian motor yacht boat builders Fjord partner with German high volume production yacht manufacturer Hanse to launch the new Fjord. The new Fjord lines originate on the Cote d’Azur, in Australia and on the Baltic.

The Fjord 40 Open is the first in a long run of introductions from the new development program at Fjord after they joined in a close cooperation with HanseYachts AG. Hanse has become one of the largest yacht producers in Europe in recent years offering unquie designs and the innovation leader with the best price performance ratio. Fjord will now follow and plans to launch more than 15 new models in the next 4 years, and will through this take an aggressive stand to play a major role in the future motorboat market.
This new line of innovative performance cruisers from the renowned Norwegian boat builder comes with a proud history of building tough, dependable and seaworthy boats. Their new spectacular one-level designs with modern interior are certain to impress.
The Fjord story, like many exciting stories, has a humble beginning. In the late 1950s, a Norwegian named Alf Richard Bjerke visited a German boat show. He decided, then and there, that the world needed boats named Fjord.
The Fjord’s inventor thought of the early Ford automobile, the car for 'every-man'; he envisioned Fjord as that kind of boat. He also understood that the word 'Fjord' connotes Vikings: Tough, dependable, honest, seaworthy, and
solid. In 1960, Bjerke started building boats in his first workshop and found a recipe for success. Fjord sales consistently grew: By the early seventies, Fjord sales surpassed the sales of all other European motor boat manufacturers.
Tastes change and Fjord’s designs changed with them. At the end of the 1980s, Eivind Amble replaced the traditional wooden designs with a new fibreglass boat that he called 'Terne' –the tern. Ten years later, Inger S. Brovid concentrated production on this boat.
Fjord builds each Terne with individual care and attention to detail. However, she was not 'everyman’s' boat. In 2005, Fjord’s managing director Morton Nordvold and Hanse Yachts agreed that Fjord needed both a new vision and a return to the central concept of the brand: The benefits of Fjord’s seafaring culture and experience should again be offered to 'everyman.'
The new team’s goal is to return the Fjord brand to the pinnacle of the European motor yacht industry. The new Fjord concept requires a clear vision. Beginning in 2006, Fjord is developing a range of yachts from 21 to 65 feet, including open cockpit, flybridge and limited edition models.
The naval architects at Allseas Design, led by Patrick Banfield, have intrigued customers seeking to have large yachts built. Allseas has designed the finest tenders. Some of the hottest motor yachts in the Mediterranean are Allseas designs.

Carbon fiber, epoxy? Both Fjord & Hanse Yachts in Germany are familiar with these premium materials. The Fjord range will be built in SP Systems epoxy in the vacuum bagged method and a real blessing for Australian owners with the boats in water nearly 100% of their life it eliminates the possibility of osmosis. Comparititive tensile strength shows that epoxy resins are 30% stronger and 10% lighter than a polyester or vinyl ester resins.

The Fjord 40 will be displayed by Windcraft Australia at the Santuary Cove Boat Show and shortly thereafter, the 35 and the first 44 and 50 later in the year.
