RYA Powerboat GP Sprint Championships this weekend

'Sprint championships 2013'    Bryan Scott

The RYA Powerboat GP British Spring Championships are set to take place this weekend, 3-4 August at the Stewartby Watersport Club in Bedford.

One of the most popular events on the powerboat racing calendar, the 2013 Sprint Championships look set to be a sizzler, with soaring temperatures and competitor numbers all adding to the monumental battle that will take place for the six British Championship titles that will be claimed over the weekend!

Local drivers Elliot Fleet, Jess Beaumont and Nigel Edwards will be looking to throw down the trophy gauntlet in their respective race classes as they battle with fellow club members and rivals to claim the ultimate prize of being crowned ‘British Sprint Champion 2013’.

With large entries in the GT15 Junior class, the competition will be fierce as many of the drivers up their game to achieve the best results and practice before many of them participate in the World Championships that will be held in the UK later this year.

The OSY400 class look set to get interesting this weekend with huge pressure being placed on current British Championship leader James Marr by the ever-competitive Jason Freeman and James Bowman.

The F2’s will be going all out, in what promises to be a spectacular battle for the Sprint title. Last years champion Malcolm Goodman, will have his work cut out fending off the fierce competition from the other 12 competitors who are all hungry to snatch the title away from him.

The on-water action will commence on both Saturday and Sunday mornings from 10.00am as the racers battle it out for the all important pole positions during timed qualifying before heading into the two day event heats.
