Speedboat racing returns in a major way at Lake Eppalock
|
The Victorian Speed Boat Club was formed in 1948 and is one of the oldest Powerboat racing clubs in Australia. For many years the club hosted events in the heart of Melbourne at Albert Park Lake as well as Lake Eppalock. During the 1990s the Albert park venue was pushed aside to make way for a well know car race and the club was consolidated to the Eppalock venue. At Eppalock the club hosted many successful events in the glory days until the lake was dry due to drought for over ten years until recently. Since the drought broke at Eppalock the club has held three race meetings in the last 18 months and each one has grown significantly. Next weekend on the 24th-25th November the Club is Hosting the 2012 Eppalock Gold Cup Event. There will also be the running of several Australian title events including Unlimited, six Litre and 1.6 litre Hydroplane classes as well as the Unlimited Open Inboard Championship. The 2.0 km long oval shaped course is situated in Derrinal pool at Lake Eppalock and is accessible via the VSBC grounds in Speedboat road. This venue will give spectators an uninterrupted close up view of the whole course to see the top class boats hit speeds of over 250kmph. Racing starts at 10 am on both days with full catering and Bar facilities (NO BYO). Entry is $10ea for Adults with kids under 16 free. For more information visit vsbc.org.au
