Cardiff Grand Prix cancelled
|
Regardless of the great turn out of competitors and the monumental efforts of organisers to stage the prestigious Cardiff Grand Prix, the weather has led to a cancellation. With wind gusts at 25 + mph throughout the weekend, the officials were constantly re-assesing the course and changing timetables to accommodate the improved weather that was promised but sadly never came. With slightly improved conditions on late Sunday afternoon - the F2 and T850 classes were able to complete some demonstration laps to the eagerly awaiting public. The UKFFORC offshore E1500 class managed the conditions much better and were able to entertain the crowds with a full programme of racing. Ruth Morse, the Officer Of the Day in overall charge of the event commented 'The cancellation of any race is very disapointing for all concerned. This event has been well supported by the competitors and the organisation and it is very sad when such efforts are in vain. Both myself and the other officials at the event were faced with difficult decisions all weekend that involve many different factors, but always have safety as the top priority.' With the cancellation of the Cardiff Grand Prix - all eyes are now on the next round of the Championship, The Kingsbury Grand Prix - that will be held at Kingsbury Waterpark, Bodymorre Heath, Warwickshire on the 14th and 15th July.
