Royal Yachting Assoc/Yachting Australia Instructor Conference at CYCSA

The Cruising Yacht Club recently welcomed participants to the fifth Royal Yachting Association - Yachting Australia (RYA/YA) Instructor Conference, held in Horizons Function Room with sessions on board the CYCSA Marine Academy's flagship vessel Academy1.
For the first time, Instructors and Principals of the Safety and Sea Survival Course were invited to attend, to participate in a simulation of a Man-overboard Fatality, from the Reflex 38 ‘Lion’ using a water rescue dummy and putting various pieces of safety equipment to the test.
Included on the agenda was an update on Marine Orders Part 3 and the latest from RYA’s Training Manager Richard Falk. At an evening network session, guest speaker Bruce Arms talked about some of the heavy weather aspects of his circumnavigation of Australia.
The subject of Social Media was also addressed by an Industry expert, while workshops on teaching Electronic Navigation, Pilotage and DSC amongst others were also conducted.
These conferences provide an excellent opportunity for Instructors to brush up on their skills and discuss subjects relevant to their industry.
