RYA British Circuit Championship Round 2 preview

'RYA British Circuit Championship 2012 Round 2'    RYA

Lancashire Powerboat Racing Club Grand Prix, the second round of the RYA British Circuit Championship 2012, is being held in Carr Mill Dam, St Helens this weekend (2/3 June).

Around 40 teams are expected to make the journey north for the RYA Championship, battling it out in six different racing classes to become British Champions.

In the GT15 Class, Lancashire’s own youngster, Charlotte Newton who took Bronze in the 2011 UIM GT15 World Championships, will be looking to take advantage of racing on home water and putting the problems she had at the first round of the National championship at Oulton Broad over the May bank holiday behind her. But she will have her work cut out for her as a fleet of seven youngsters’ battle it out for the all-important championship points.

Also looking to get his championship back on track is local racer Malcolm Goodman. The reigning 2011 F2 British RYA Champion got his campaign off to a flying start at the first round of the championship dominating most of the weekend until the final race saw him suffer engine problems forcing him to retire from the race and have to settle for fourth overall. Malcolm will be out to prove that any gremlins are now behind him, and with large home crowds expected to line the shores at Carr Mill Dam there’s expected to be some fast and furious action on the water.

Meanwhile GT30 Championship leader Ben Morse of Ashton-In-Makerfield will be hoping that he’ll be able to extend his lead in the championship as he competes on his local circuit he’s been racing on for over nine years now.

Television presenter and motoring journalist Tiff Needell will be in attendance at the event as he presents a new television programme that is following the RYA British Circuit Powerboat Championship to be broadcast later in the season.

All the action on the water will commence on Saturday morning at 11am as the racers battle it out for the all-important pole positions during timed qualifying before heading into the weekends heats.

The event is free to public and offers some fast and furious on water action with a fantastic party atmosphere over the Jubilee weekend.
