Fujairah Grand Prix, the fifth and final heat of the UIM X-CAT World Powerboat Series, is being held this weekend over the 12th and 13th April in Fujairah.

The combination of Mohammed Al Nasr and Hamad Jasim Mohammed were off to a slow start as the Qatar Team slipped down the order to finish in sixth at the end of the fourth round held at the Dubai International Marine Club last weekend.

The 95 points earned through that place gave the Qataris a total of 920 points, still 297 adrift of the Victory Team-owned Fazza duo of Arif Al Zaffain and Mohammed Al Marri, who managed to assume leadership with a start to finish run last Saturday.

The Qatar Team had shown early promise this season with two second place finishes and a third going into last week’s round in Dubai. But the sixth place at the Dubai Grand Prix severely handicapped their position at the top of the standings as Fazza took over.

In contrast, Fazza has improved with every race. The Dubai team won the opener, but finished down the order in the second in Abu Dhabi on January 20. But Al Zaffain and Al Marri hauled their campaign back on track with a brand-new boat to win the last two races and now place themselves as hot favourites for yet another world crown.

However, they will have to be wary of Mouawad. The Omar Daniel-driven and Gary Ballough-throttled boat has been consistent while picking up two second spots in the last two rounds to take their tally to 1050 points, and along with it the right to be genuine challengers to Fazza along with the Qatar Team.

And Swiss driver Daniel knows that Mouawad will have to stay competitive, if not go one beyond, should they be among the genuine aspirants for a maiden world title this week in Fujairah.

'Our aim is to go out there and win the race. We have done well to come in second in the last two races. It is now time to try and go one better and win it so that we give ourselves the chance for a title,' Daniel said.

In fourth position is Extreme Marine (662 points), followed by Abu Dhabi Racing Team (521), Spirit of Abu Dhabi (389) and Consul Brokers (307).

Action will get under way on Thursday with the official practice at 10.30 am followed the new concept of the Speed Cat Run from 2.30 to 3.30 pm.

On Friday, the Pole Position run will be held between 9.30 to 11 am followed by the fifth and final round of the 2012 UIM X-CAT World Series at 3.30 pm.
