Just four months out from the London 2012 Olympic Games, Barz Optics will exhibit at the RYA Volvo Dinghy Show 3 & 4 March at Alexandra Place London and use it as the platform for launching its new kids' range of polarised sunglasses.

Says Kevin Barr, founder of Barz Optics: 'The show is the major European Show dedicated to the dinghy sailing market and will be a good lead up to the London Olympics. We will use the show to release our new kids’ performance range of sailing glasses.'

The range consists of two styles aimed at the five to 10-year old age group with two other two styles aimed at nine to 14-years.

The Barz Optics 'GROM model' features a dual moulded frame fitted with 1.1mm triacetate polarised lenses.

'The frames are scaled down to fit small head sizes,' explains Kevin. 'One of the other models is a kids’ version of one of our best sellers, the Nauru model. It’s available in matt black or crystal black (transparent) frame.'

According to Kevin, all models will have better quality 1.1mm tri acetate lenses then most kids’ styles on the market have thinner .50 or .75mm lenses with lots of distortion. 'All our models will be available in grey or amber and the Grom model will also have the option of photochromic polarised lenses – the lens darkens to Cat 3 in full sun and will lighten to Cat 2 in cloudy or low light conditions.'

The significance is better eye protection, says Kevin. 'Eye specialist are finding much younger people developing pterigium (clear growth like a cataract) than they were 20 years ago. The eye is trying to protect itself from the elements of glare, wind, spray and UV.'
