Arvor-good-weekend in this family/fishing cruiser

For all 'intense' and purposes, the new Arvor 700 Weekender looks to be the perfect boat for those with a hectic life and a heck-of-a wife.

Here’s a hybrid family/fishing cruiser that appreciates some people like a riesling, not just a reel, in hand when they go boating.

More than a decade has passed since the launch of the Arvor range, but where its stablemates are renowned as hardcore day-fishers this model has a softer side to pamper and impress the fairer sex.

Some of its cockpit space has been sacrificed to allow for a larger cabin, so after a day’s fishing and cruising you can head for a cove and drop anchor for the night.

The Weekender 700’s semi-displacement hull is a derivative of the Arvor 230, with similar sea-keeping qualities and performance. The high topside height will confer a dry ride when offshore.

It sports a single Cummins CMD 150hp diesel, mid-mounted for good balance and driving a shaft for reliability.
Top speed is 22 knots and fuel economy is something petrol outboards and sterndrives can only dream about.

Buyers will be attracted not only by the economics but ergonomics. The cockpit has a self-draining floor and whether you choose to drop a line, entertain friends, or have an afternoon siesta on the folding sunbed, it can fulfil your needs.

There’s also the walk-around access to the bow that Arvor owners expect.

Inside the lockable cabin is a large vee berth, convertible dinette, private head compartment, and a workable galley with 12-volt fridge, gas stove plus sink with pressurised water.

The helm station to starboard has a comfortable bucket seat and neatly placed gauges.

Large windows allow light to flood in but shield the rain and wind. Occupants can enjoy boating 12 months of the year on any waterway.

While being made to live in the water, the Weekender has the benefit of being trailable, giving you the ability to explore areas further afield.

'This is a boat that customers have been calling for, particularly wives,' Arvor Australia general manager Peter Collins said.

'It ticks all the critical Arvor boxes – diesel, shaft, bowthruster, lockable cabin, self-draining cockpit, walk-around decks – while also allowing owners to sleep aboard with their family and friends.

'I can see it being perfect for places like Lake Macquarie and Port Stephens.'

Among the standard features on this European-built vessel are a bowthruster and trim tabs, plus an electric windlass operated from the helm.

The first Weekender 700 is due to arrive on Australian shores in October. Pricing is expected to be below the $115,000 mark, not including trailer.
