RYA Honda Youth RIB Championship final - PSP Southampton Boat Show 2011 -  RYA?nid=87958   Click Here to view large photo

Roaring in to action on Sunday 18 Sept will be the 32 finalists of the 2011 Honda RYA Youth RIB Championship. Youngsters from across the country will be battling it out on the water in the hope of clinching the championship title (09.00 – 16.00 off Solent Park). Crowning will take place on the Honda stand CO62 at 17.00. On preview day (Friday 16) we’ll also be challenging some marine and local press journalists to have a go at the Honda RYA Youth RIB Challenge to see how they fair around the course and see how their times compare to the talented youngsters.

Our publications team will be unveiling another new title when they launch the new RYA Passage Planning book (14.00, RYA stand EO37). Join us to hear all about the new book and what the author has to say about passage planning.

OnBoard - PSP Southampton Boat Show 2011 -  RYA?nid=87958   Click Here to view large photo

Also on Sunday we’ll be hosting a mini OnBoard festival where youngsters will be competing in dinghy racing events and enjoying some games out on the water. Come and cheer them along down in the marina from 13.00 to 14.30 and join them for a prize giving on the RYA stand (EO37) at 14.45.

On Thursday 22, (RYA stand EO37, 12.00) The Green Blue, the RYA and BMF’s environmental programme, will be joined by round the world sailor Dee Caffari, to present The Green Blue Award for Individual Environmental Excellence. The award is presented to the individual, within the UK recreational boating sector, who has been an inspirational leader or just straightforward hardworking champion of sustainability, making significant improvements in their organisation, club, training centre or business.

Later that day at 15.00 (RYA stand EO37) The Green Blue will also be presenting certificates to those marine organisations who have successfully completed The Green Blue’s online Marine Toolkit and are making the all-important steps in implementing environmental change.

Saturday 24 is another busy day as we unveil the RYA Sail for Gold ‘Passage to Portland’ event. Join event coordinators Celia and Carol for a glass of Bucks Fizz on the RYA stand at 11.00 and find out what’s in store at this unique event which will give you access and a tour around the Olympic sailing venue ahead of the 2012 Games, get out on the water to watch the Sail for Gold regatta and join in all the celebrations for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

We’ll also be launching our final book of the show the RYA Offshore Sailing Book. Come along to the RYA stand (EO37 at 14.00) and pick up some top tips from the books author.

And it doesn’t end there.

New for 2011 are our expert talks. Held throughout the week on the RYA stand we’ll be hosting a collection of fascinating talks from some of the top experts in the country on boating. Author Claudia Myatt talks knot tying for kids; James Hall from Spinlock tells us all about lifejackets and Jon Mendez tells us about Heavy weather motorboating. Graham Moody will be on hand for the Boat Buying Clinic, while Rob Gibson talks Sail Trim. There will also be talks on Olympic preparations and Sail for Gold updates with some special speakers including Skandia Team GBR’s Bryony Shaw and Saskia Clark, with yet more speakers to be confirmed. A full timetable of talks will be available on the RYA website in the lead up to the show.

For younger visitors we will be running the ever popular Treasure Hunt. Weave in and out of the crowds around the show to collect your treasure before returning to the RYA stand to be in with a chance of winning a fantastic goodie bag.

The Green Blue, in association with DEFRA and the Check-Clean-Dry campaign, is also offering one lucky person the chance to win a Panasonic Lumix FT3 digital waterproof camera. Simply answer the question on the flyer available from the RYA stand and RYA members lounge and post your entry back in the competition entries box on the RYA stand (EO37), it’s that easy!

RYA members can also claim a 20% discount on all publications and pick up a copy of the 2012 Reeds Nautical Almanac for just £27.50.

Come and see us on the stand where members of RYA staff will be on hand throughout the show to answer any questions you may have from getting started and finding the right training course for you, to expert advice on cruising and membership.

We look forward to seeing you there.
