Sail-World.com : New Ocean Yachts 68 was worth its 'wait' in gold

New Ocean Yachts 68 was worth its 'wait' in gold

'Long boarding platform and flybridge overhang help provide a commanding presence'    Creating Demand    Click Here to view large photo

It says something about the New Ocean Yachts 68 Enclosed Flybridge that well-heeled visitors were queuing up to inspect it at Sydney International Boat Show, where it made its debut.

These are people used to going straight to the front of the line at airport check-ins and restaurants. They wait for no man, let alone a boat.

The 68-footer sets a new benchmark for those who appreciate the luxury and certainly didn’t disappoint. You get a sense of quality and craftsmanship the moment you step aboard, with European taste seemingly dripping from its pores.

Hopefully the accompanying pictures do it justice.

Starting aft, there’s a teak-lined hydraulic swim platform accompanying a spacious tender garage. The cockpit boasts a gloss-varnished teak table with surrounding padded lounge and timber chairs to seat 10 people.

Three-way sliding bulkhead doors lead into a galley area with island serving bench and a full complement of household appliances. With high gloss walnut timberwork and corian benchtops it looks delicious.

Elsewhere in the saloon is an ultra-leather lounge and a six-seat dining table, both of which are in view of the mechanical-lift 40-inch flat screen TV.

Both the bed and surrounding space are king-sized in the master stateroom -  Creating Demand   Click Here to view large photo

Below decks, the owner’s full-beam master stateroom is fit for a king-size bed. You also get a double basin ensuite and shower, plus ample storage and another 40-inch flat screen TV.

The guest master cabin forward features a queen-size bed and a stand-alone ensuite. To port is another guest cabin that features two singles and an adjoining ensuite used as the day head.

The fourth cabin features an auxiliary room including a full domestic upright fridge and matching freezer, washer dryer and electrical components.

Hull has nice seakeeping qualities and a handy turn of pace from twin C32 Cats -  Creating Demand

Accommodated neatly in the engineroom, meanwhile, are twin Caterpillar C32 ACERT diesel engines driving shafts. Those who like joysticks will be happy to know that Twin Disc’s EJS control system is used, seamlessly co-ordinating the props, bow and stern thrusters.

Three cheers for the helm station ... the seats are sensational -  Creating Demand   Click Here to view large photo

This is a vessel that’s as driven as the individuals who will buy it, a sure sign being the three leather electric Bezenzoni helm chairs fronting the flybridge helm station.

An L-shaped lounge pulls out to create a double bed, while for entertaining the bridge has a TV and bar fridge.

This is how, and where, the 'other half' will live when they're aboard ... alfresco dining. -  Creating Demand   Click Here to view large photo

Large stainless doors with a hopper window extend out on to a landing area with teak table and bench seat, plus a padded reverse facing seat.

Owners Bruce and Julie Scott say the purchase experience matched the quality of the boat.

‘The level of customisation they allowed us was fantastic, so we could have the boat we really wanted,’ they said. ‘We are so impressed with how much boat you get for the investment.’

The New Ocean Yachts 68 Enclosed Flybridge will be based on Sydney Harbour.
