DAFF Shark plan 2 open for public consultation

'Gummy Shark'    DPI Victoria
DAFF, The Commonwealth Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry has just released (for public consultation Friday 13 May 2011), Australia’s draft 2011 National Plan of Action (Shark plan 2) for the Conservation and Management of Sharks.

The plan provides guidance to fisheries and conservation managers and fishers on ways to improve the conservation and management of sharks. Australia’s first National Plan of Action for the Conservation and Management of Sharks was released in 2004.

A review of the 2004 plan was done by DAFF in 2008 in collaboration with key stakeholders including the commercial and recreational fishing sectors, all state and Northern territory fisheries agencies and the Commonwealth Department of Sustainability, Environment, Water, Population and Communities.

DAFF is seeking written submissions on the draft Shark-plan 2 until 5:00pm AEST on Friday, 15 July 2011. Fisheries Victoria encourages Victorian recreational fishers to read the draft plan and take the opportunity to provide comments to DAFF. You may obtain further information or a copy of the draft Shark-plan 2 by visiting the DAFF website, emailing sharkplan2(at)daff.gov.au or by calling 1800 016 850.
