Lost Loran locations? No problem with Furuno GP33

When Loran was phased out early in 2010, many skippers almost went to ‘panic stations’ wondering how or if they could ever recover the information accumulated via Loran over the years.

Renowned electronics manufacturer Furuno recognised this and those concerns disappear thanks to the all-new GP33 Navigator.

The GP33 is not only a simple to use unit, it is capable of directing a navigator as close as possible to Loran locations as is technically possible.

Furuno’s GP33uses its high-sensitivity, 12-channel GPS Receiver and then enhances it with the Wide Area Augmentation System (WAAS) to bring one as near as possible to Loran locations.

According to Furuno, the GP33 is 'a navigational best friend.'

It is certainly a feature-packed unit with an array of inclusions to suit the most discerning navigator.

These include;

• Sunlight viewable 4.3' colour LCD display
• Twelve-channel GPS Receiver with two additional dedicated channels
• Seven display modes, including two customisable models, plotter, Lat/Lon, Highway Mode and Compass Ribbon
• Fully NMEA2000 Certified with dual 12V/24V NMEA2000 (Furuno CANbus) voltage capability.
• Integrated NMEA0183 and RS232 ports (simultaneous usage w/NMEA2000 port).
• 10,000 waypoints/mark storage with 100 route and 3000 track points.
• Contact closure input/external alarm output for external MPB pendant systems, external event switch input or external alarm contact trigger output
• And shortly available an optional ‘cover-up’ bezel for simple, clean retrofit of previous GP3x displays.

The GP33 is also a ‘cosmetic match’ to Furuno’s NavNet 3D range of Chart Plotters and when flush mounted its identical faceplate thickness makes it look well and truly part of the NavNet 3D family.

This unit can be used as a stand-alone GPS Navigator or it can be plugged into an existing NavNet 3D NMEA2000 backbone to become part of a complete helm.

The GP33, Furuno says, is ‘modestly priced’ and available through authorised dealers worldwide.
