Guy Bailey and his cousin, Scott, have hit the water running. The opening of their $7 million Baileys Marine Fuels at Sydney’s White Bay 6 last week triggered an avalanche of business from boats and boaties of all descriptions, all welcoming a much-needed facility on the Harbour.

'We’re 10 minutes from Kirribilli and just 700m from King St Wharf, so we’re handy for everybody,' says Guy, reporting that the first customers through the 'gas and go' facility were a yellow water taxi, commercial vessels, a ThunderJet tourist boat and fishos off to a tournament of Sydney heads.

'It’s like a car service station,' he explains. 'We have a 440,000L fuel storage capacity and can pump 40L a minute to 1000L a minute, eight boats at once – Sydney ferries down one end and yachts down the other.'

The development of the massive complex is only just beginning. Stage one is open now and comprises the fuel facility. It will eventually house sullage and oily water pump out and a hardstand over two hectares – right on the doorstep of Sydney’s marine playground.

Stage two will be starting in about a month with plans for completion by the end of the year. Baileys Marine have developed a reputation for investing in and building state of the art marine fuel service facilities around the country, to cater to the needs of commercial and recreational boat operators.

They embarked on the White Bay 6 project in collaboration with the BIA, Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority and local residents to ensure the highest ecological standards were met.

Baileys Marine went one step further and have actually designed and operate the facility under international standard ISO 14001 (Environmental Management System) to ensure the protection of the harbour and surrounds.

Bailey and his family have been in the marine sector for 25 years, operating marine fuel businesses and fast ferry, the Rottnest Express, in Western Australia.

'This is our first project on the east coast and it was six and a half years in the making, and a lot of thought and planning have gone in to it. It’s modern, convenient and very efficient. We know there has been a decided lack of competition in fuel supply in Sydney harbour, so we are proud to be able to offer Sydney’s cheapest fuel.'

White Bay 6 provides 24/7 commercial refuelling, and recreational fuel services from 5am - 10pm (manned 7am – 6pm), seven days a week. Fuel can be purchased using credit card or Baileys Marine fuel cards at the bowsers.
