UAE Wooden Powerboat Championships - Extreme Marine’s Salim Fadhel Al Hamli and Ahmed Mohd Hassan Al Suwaidi scored a comfortable win in the fourth heat of the UAE Wooden Powerboat Championships held in Mina Seyahi on Saturday.
The win takes the team to the top of the overall standings after a perfect score for the last three heats. In second place was Delma Marine, driven by Khalifa and Ahmed Humaid Bin Thaiban and third was Extreme Marine 2 with Khamis Al Qubaisi and Khalfan Suhail Al Muhairi.
It was the second event of the Majid Bin Mohammed Watersports Championships organized by Dubai International Marine Club (DIMC) under the umbrella of the UAE Marine Sports Federation and is the penultimate round of the wooden powerboat this season. The race with 18 boats competing took just over 45 minutes to complete in windy conditions but with a fairly flat sea.
‘The Extreme Marine season has gone from strength to strength this year, not just in this class but also in the XCat class. It is a great feeling,’ said Salim Fadhel Al Hamli.
From the organization Mohammed Hareb who oversees the powerboat racing for the DIMC Committee was happy with how the race went. ‘We are constantly looking at the rules and the structure of the racing, the boats, engines and drivers,’ he said. ‘We want to improve and develop the sport and after this race we will scrutinize all the boats for our records. Together with Abu Dhabi International Marine Sport Club and my counterpart Nasser Al Dhaheri we are working on a more solid foundation for the Wooden Powerboat class.
The final round will be held at DIMC on 23rd April at 11am.
