H2O Racing season is off to an exciting start

H2O Racing has kicked off its racing season by staging a couple of amazing events over the last ten days in Qatar's capital city, Doha.

'Two down 26 to go, we have done almost 10 percent of the job,' said H2O Racing's boss, Nicolò di San Germano, with a wry smile. 'Of course, the beginning is always the most complicated, but we are very, very satisfied. We have had two excellent events.'

In 2011 San Germano's company will organize 28 international events in 13 countries on three continents in ten months.

Thousands of spectators lined the Doha Corniche to watch the opening rounds of the UIM F1H2O Powerboat and Aquabike World Championships, with the Aquabike event showcasing in Qatar for the first time and attracting a record number of competitors. 'It has been a great pleasure to see almost 80 competitors from 13 countries racing in Doha, and especially pleasing to have so many riders from Kuwait, Qatar and the UAE. This is quite exciting for a promoter.' San Germano said. 'The organization by the Qatar Marine Sports Federation under the leadership of His Excellency Sheikh Hassan has been fantastic.

'And I was very pleased to see a rather big banner saying that Class One will come back soon to Qatar. And of course we are also pleased about the return of the Qatar Team with two boats to Class One.'

For the H2O Racing organization there will be no let up in their frantic schedule as they now prepare for two 'off-calendar' events in the coming weeks. 'At the end of this week in Abu Dhabi we will have the first official test days for teams who have registered to race in the new F1 Nations Cup Championship, and then a few days later we will hold a test day for Class One in Dubai, with the boats running the torque sensor. So it looks like we will not have many days off!'
