The fleet of 17 power and sailboats - which includes Nick Bartel’s Cookson 50 Terra Firma – participating in Variety Splash 2011 are dockside at Queenscliff Harbour this morning awaiting departure at 11am for Day 2.
Today the fleet will take the 5.6 nautical mile course from Queenscliff to Mornington as part of the fourth annual popular fundraising event.
Similar in style to the infamous Variety Bash the focus is firmly placed on having fun – and there was plenty of fun had on day 1 of the event. (See attached images from day 1)
As with all Variety events, the Splash has a serious side. Its primary objective is to raise money for children in the community with a wide range of special needs.
Monies raised during the three day rally on Port Philip Bay is hoped to be in excess of $150,000 and will be used to empower children who are sick, disadvantaged or have special needs to live laugh and learn. www.varietysplash.org.au
