The new Australian standards (AS4758.1) for PFDs have come into effect and Burke Marine, celebrating 40 years in marine industry, have decided to embrace the changes by releasing a whole new range of smarter and sharper level 100 to 50 PFDs.
by Colin Burgess
Innovation, Comfort, Flexibility and Affordability were the charges presented to the design team at Burke Marine. And, as always, they have outdone themselves, producing models L100, AP50, M50, D50 and E50, as well as Level 150-100 inflatables. The R50 and S50 are also in works - keep an eye out for them in late 2011.
The whole range has been ergonomically designed for extra comfort, space and flexibility (especially around the arms) and made with extra-supple, non water-retention foam. For easy donning, the latest non-corrosive zips have been double-sewn and a sturdy non-removable 38mm waist band accompanied by an elasticised waist provides a snug fit.
As Martin Burke, CEO and founder of Burke Marine, says: 'In the PFD business, my main goal has always been to not only provide an affordable PFD, but one that you would gladly wear.' Add a new palette of smart European colours and styling to all these comfort features, and it is clear that this marine leader has yet again remained true to his word.
