Wolfe to prowl on water at EC Griffith Cup
|
The campaign to hold the EC Griffith Cup on Lake Mulwala received a further boost with the news that high profile US driver Eliabeth Wolfe will attend. The coup was organized by her good friend and great supporter of the Lake Mulwala Power event previous World Champion, Grant Harrison. 'Elizabeth is a highly respected, aggressive hydroplane driver who likes not only to win, but to go out and have fun while doing it,' Grant said. She is part of the Johnson Wolfe Team, the team that has enjoyed a long history of proven success in the hydroplane racing across America. Elizabeth will drive in Paul Norrish’s 1.6ltr Oz Lite Hydroplane ‘Times R Tuff’ which won the Victorian Championship in his comeback drive at Mildura after a serious accident. The boat is a bit older and certainly a lot slower than the boat she drives in North America, however Elizabeth is excited to compete here in Australia. Based out of Chicago, Elizabeth Wolfe has been driving Inboard Hydroplanes for eight years. She has stepped up as the primary driver for the state of the art National Modified hull ‘Desperado’ in the US. Reaching speeds of over 140mph Elizabeth places competitively in the top three at every race that she finishes. The VSBC (Victorian Speed Boat Club) is running the ‘on water’ side of the event, has sent out the application forms to all competitors. New Zealand will also be represented with three Grand Prix Hydroplane teams. Great interest has been shown so far and the word is certainly out there according to Yarrawonga Mulwala Tourism events coordintor Barb Macdermid. Greg and AnneMarie Bisogni owners of Babcon Cranes from Cobram, have once again committed to this event, offering all cranes and scissor lift equipment as a major sponsorship. 'We love being part of community events and are wrapped to be involved in the Power Boat Races on Lake Mulwala' Greg said. We are extremely happy to be a major sponsor once again and can’t wait for the action and the adrenalin rush that is part of some unbelievably high power action.' 'I wouldn’t miss it for anything'.
