The Queensland Gold Coast will stand as power boating’s epicentre for three exciting days, October 31- November 2 with a packed boat racing program and a visit to the area by 120 delegates representing 62 nations from the Union Internationale Motonautique (UIM), the sport’s world governing body.

It will be the largest gathering of UIM officials in Australia since the World Offshore championships were staged in Melbourne in 1980.

For powerboat racing fans, the weekend will be a ‘smorgasbord’ of competition with Offshore, Formula 1 and 2, Unlimited Displacement, Unlimited 6.0-litre, Jet Skis and Junior classes all competing.

The program opens at 11.30am on the Friday (October 31) with a media launch and VIP reception at the pit area within the car park facility at The Spit, Southport, where competing boats will also be scrutineered.

On the Friday afternoon, starting at 2.30pm, the second round of the Australian Offshore Powerboat Club’s Superboat Series gets underway, with the big boats doing battle over a course just off Surfers Paradise.

The remainder, including the spectacular Formula I and Formula 2 ‘tunnel boats’ will compete on Saturday and Sunday over a tight course at the Marine Stadium near Sea World.

A 32.0-metre catamaran from the Tall Ships charter company will be anchored adjacent to the course for media and VIP guests.

For delegates a highlight will surely be a gala dinner on the Saturday evening hosted by Maritimo Offshore Team owner Bill Barry-Cotter.

The dinner will be held at Sea World, right in the heart of the action.

It’s shaping up to be a weekend to remember and Powerboat-World will be on hand to cover all the action.
