Australian Products in demand in Europe

Australia’s marine industry is out in force at METS Amsterdam in November with close to 30 exporters showcasing the latest cutting-edge innovations.

The Australian International Marine Export Group (AIMEX) leads 27 companies to METS, the world’s largest marine equipment show attracting visitors from more than 100 countries staged November 18 to 20. This year, the group has secured additional space with more than 200sqm of displays at METS.

Australian exporters participating at METS include Aeronaut Automation, Aqualuma Underwater Lighting, Ark Corporation, Austral Propellers, Burke Marine, Coursemaster Autopilots Pty Ltd, Donaghys Pty Ltd, Evrsafe Marine Technology, Fiber Glass International (FGI), Fixtech Marine Solutions, Global Moorings, GME, Go Boating Publications (Boating Business), Hydrive Engineering Pty Ltd, Marina Protection Systems Pty Ltd, Muirs Windlasses Australia, Multipanel, Poly Flex Australia, Powerdive, Ronstan International, Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show, Sea Gyro, Stress Free Marine, Superior Jetties, TMQ Electronics, Veem Propellers and Zhik Pty Ltd.

AIMEX members reinforce the importance of the Show to their international marketing. GME’s Sean Griffin describes the Show as 'pivotal' to the company’s European endeavours and to its global marketing.

'METS represents a fantastic opportunity for all serious equipment manufacturers, both large and small, to showcase their products to a well qualified, enthusiastic audience of marine professionals.'

In some Australian highlights:

· GME is displaying its award-winning range of emergency beacons; its compact VHF radio as well as debuting the GR9200 marine stereo system at METS, a compact weather resistant CD/MPS/AM/FM player with iPod® compatibility and wired remote control options. The GR9200 is available in traditional gimbal or flush mount versions;

· Global Moorings launches in Europe at METS the EzyRider Mooring and Offset Anchor system, an environmentally-friendly low-impact high strength advanced design system for swing moorings. By harnessing naturally occurring buoyancy to dissipate vessel energy, this patented design offers a reduction in swing room of up to 50 per cent while mitigating chain scour damage in sensitive coral and seagrass environments. The company is looking to appoint distributors in the US and European markets for the EzyRider Mooring;

· Marina Protection Systems is exhibiting the Shaft Grounding Strap which provides a shaft driven vessel maximum electrical contact from the sacrificial anode to the shaft and propeller. As shaft anodes are not longer required, the Strap saves money and offers excellent protection from corrosion for the propeller and shafts. The innovation received a commendation award at the 2008 Australian Marine Awards. The company’s successful Maddox Anodes also offer benefits for wooden and fibreglass boats by creating a more neutral environment under the vessel thus reducing the amount of contaminants on the hull. As the Maddox Anodes last longer than zinc, the boat does not need to be slipped as often, thus saving money while a cleaner hull offers fuel economy;

· Fixtech Marine Solutions showcases its marine quality adhesive sealants. The company has achieved DNV classification on premier product FixSeal+ MSP190 as a Type Approved Product for structural bonding components and glass window system. The Queensland-based company designs and supplies marine-quality adhesive sealants working with leading boat builders such as Maritimo Offshore, Grand Banks, Horizon Yachts, Jet-Tern and Boustead Yachts and many others. The company has opened two offices in Asia at Shah Alam, Malaysia and at Kaohsiung in Taiwan;

· EVRSafe is showing the latest development of the multi international award winning ISS-1040.The unit is now available as a single sensor, a paired sensor or the original 4 sensor unit. As a further development EVRSafe is displaying the 'Traker', a GPS driven tracking device which fully integrates with the ISS unit. Enabling remote information pertaining to the vessel, 'Traker' is the ultimate 'peace of mind' technology.

· Poly Flex is attending METS 2008 with UK distributor Southern Cross Marine to offer support and experience to the local market throughout Europe. Now reinforcing brand recognition and market place acceptance in the area, Poly Flex’s 27 years of experience and DNV type approval makes the company an industry leader. General manager Jason Cooper is joining Southern Cross Marine’s Will and Rachel Meddick at this year’s METS Show.

· MultiPanel has capped an already outstanding year with news that major US boat builder Viking will incorporate the panel into production of its latest range of luxury vessels. Viking says that in its 43 year history, it has never lost sight of its mission to 'build a better boat everyday.' The integration of MultiPanel into its ’09 range is no doubt Viking’s newest undertaking to give effect to that claim. The revolutionary panel will allow the company to design and build interior fit-outs that more genuinely reflect the signature styling of their boats’ exteriors. Viking’s shift to use of the new hi-density board technology is a sure sign that other global manufacturers will want to capitalise on MultiPanel’s 60% weight savings and superior versatility

· Stress Free Marine is an Australian manufacturer and developer of the electric-drum style anchor winch, Stress Free. The company’s managing director Dean Forster is showcasing the Next Generation (NG) Series Stress Free at METS. The NG series is a result of 10 years research and development, reflecting the team’s dedication and commitment to lead the market with a customer-focussed electric anchor winch. All NG Series models have the superfast free-fall mechanism which allows the anchor to free fall at 600ft a minute. Once the anchor hits the bottom, the revolution speed of the drum slows down and stops with an engineered breaking system. Other features include the ability to power up and down at 80-90ft a minute and a heavy-duty maintenance free gearbox.

Attendance at METS is just part of AIMEX’s ongoing international marketing. The group will also have a presence at boat shows at the United Arab Emirates and China early 2009.

Austrade suggests Australia’s marine industry has a turnover of around $A5.5 billion consisting of 2700 companies. The industry is highly diverse offering boat building and repairing, marina operations, marine equipment and components manufacturing, super yacht building and refit and marine services. AIMEX is the peak industry body representing Australia’s marine exporters.
