So, you’re in the market for a new boat?

How about taking a Second Chance, you’ll only need a neat USD$15,500,000!

Needless to say, with that sort of price tag Second Chance is really something out of the proverbial box.

Built by the renowned Palmer Johnson yard, Second Chance is a majestic 131-footer (40-metre) motor yacht of the highest standard.

Let’s face it, ‘normal’ people could not afford her astonishing array of marine electronics, let alone her collection of ‘toys’ comprising a 19’ (5.79-metres) Nautica RIB powered by a 150hp Yamaha outboard, an 11’ (3.35-metre) inflatable with a 5hp Mercury outboard, two Yamaha personal watercraft and a dive compressor.

Internally, Second Chance simply stuns the senses.

Her master stateroom is not just a master stateroom; it’s described as 'an owner’s sanctuary', with its own lounge area complete with wet bar, an en-suite with his and her baths and, wait for it, a Jacuzzi!

Two of her five guest cabins come with their own spa baths.

One almost needs a pocket calculator to count the number of plasma television sets ‘scattered’ throughout the vessel; they’re in every stateroom, saloon, even the crew quarters which, incidentally, cater for up to 10 crew members.

Hand woven carpets, customised joinery, plush leathers and unique fabrics all add to the vessel’s amazing fit out.

As she is only a semi-displacement still vessel, Second Chance does not boast huge horsepower; her main engines are Caterpillar diesels generating only 720hp each.

There are two Northern Lights marine gensets, Niaid stabiliser, bow thrusters, dual water makers capable of producing 2500 gallons per day, and a complete back-up emergency steering system and spare sets of propellers.

The skipper of Second Chance has it all at his (or her?) finger tips.

An internal communications system boasts 12 lines and 16 extensions, enabling he skipper to reach anyone on board and there’s a comprehensive cellular system, telefax, VHF, satellite communications through Inmarsat B and Nera World Phone.

Navigation systems are equally fantastic.

Three radar systems, autopilot, Gyrocompass, two depth sounders, two GPS and a GPS plotter, a laser plotter, weather fax, wind and speed indicator and a chart plotting computer.

Phew!

That’ll keep the skipper quiet while the rest of us enjoy the spacious sky lounge with its full bar, games room, lounge area and, of course, another plasma television and stereo sound system.

I guess Second Chance is a prime example of how that fabled ‘other half’ live.

At USD$15,500,000 I can report with meticulous accuracy that Second Chance is above my price limit (just!!!).
