Budding Champions win Powerpole

The #99 Fountain Worldwide and #44 Conam Yachts teams dominated today’s Vigo Grand Prix of the Sea PowerPole session for the Evolution and SuperSport races.

The two teams looking to sew up this year’s Evolution and SuperSport titles got their Vigo Grand Prix of the Sea weekend off to the best possible start by dominating today’s PowerPole – the session that decides the start order for tomorrow’s Sprint race and Sunday’s Endurance race off the coast of northern Spain.

The defending champion #99 Fountain Worldwide 1st4boats.com team topped the E volution class times by just under five seconds from a closely matched battle for second place between the #10 Fantastic 1 Cigarette team and the #88 Kiton Outerlimits entry.

Even more dominant in the SuperSport class were the defending champion #44 Conam Yachts team, leading the way by almost 10 seconds from the #26 Redline entry in second – an impressive performance from a team which is racing here as a Wild Card for the first time. It was another Wild Card entry in third place, with the #05 Five Tulio Abbate Team.

Saturday’s SuperSport Sprint race gets underway in the Puerto de Vigo at 11:30 local time (09:30 GMT), with the Evolution Sprint race following at 16:30 local time (14:30 GMT). Sunday’s Endurance race takes place off the coast of Playa de Samil, with the SuperSport event starting at 11:30 local time (09:30 GMT) and the Evolution race rounding off the weekend’s action at 16:30 local time (14:30 GMT).

As ever, you can watch all the races live on Virtual Spectator and listen to our exclusive commentary on P1 Radio. We’ll also have full reports, news, reaction and analysis from every moment of the weekend, so keep it tuned to PowerboatP1.com.
