The general assembly of the Union Internationale Motonautique (UIM), the governing body of world powerboat racing, will meet on the Gold Coast on October 27.

More than 250 delegates are expected to attend.

It will be the largest gathering of UIM officials in Australia since the World Offshore championships were staged in Melbourne in 1980.

Bill Barry-Cotter, CEO of Maritimo and owner of the Maritimo Offshore Race Team, will sponsor and host a gala dinner for the delegates at 'a surprise venue' on November 1.

Australia’s top offshore race boats will feature in a street parade through Surfers Paradise the previous day, October 31, giving spectators a close-up view of the awesome racers, some of which are capable of more than 240km/hr (150mph).

The Maritimo team will also stage demonstration races off the coast featuring the new catamaran hulls with the 790hp naturally-aspirated engines aimed at increasing competitiveness and reducing costs of Class 1 racing.

For further information contact Maritimo Team Manager, Ann Marie Cook, telephone (07) 5588-6000.
