Australian F1 Superboat Series headed for Toukley
|
Round 2 May 24 and 25,that is, for the XLR8 Home Loans Australian F1 Superboat Series. After braving the Antarctic conditions over the Anzac weekend at Geelong, fingers are crossed for better conditions for the Superboats’ second hit-out in 2008. Returning to the Central Coast location of Toukley, on the southern side of Lake Budgewoi, round two will see Rhys Coles face off against Shane Vella. These two (there’s that number again) stood toe to toe at Corio Bay, with Coles emerging the victor by a two to one margin. With some serious driving skills required on a course that varied second by second, thanks to the conditions, the ’06 champ delivered some pretty powerful knockout blows to the yellow machine of Vella after being nudged into second on race 1. Race 2 and 3 saw the Byron Bay Premium Ale entry take the win and the round, shading a courageous Vella by a mere 5 points. Damien McKenzie showed why consistency is a much prized commodity, running third in the three races and stands poised to challenge for a second placing. XLR8 Home Loans in the form of Craig Truslove overcame last minute mechanical dramas to place a creditable fourth, tieing for points alongside Anthony McEnnally. Local contender Dean Trickey, Jon Tsaccounis and Todd Boaer gave their all whilst a disappointed Gavin Bricker had a weekend he’d no doubt like to forget, failing to get a start. Support classes in the form of the F2000’s, the maniacal Mono’s (and didn’t they come close to some danger at Geelong!) and the pocket rocket jetskis will round out a weekends racing and entertainment. As before, the Beachcomber Hotel will be home to crews and officials and will offer a great place to watch the racing over the weekend of May 24 and 25. With a range of facilities covering all ages, the Beachcomber provides a welcome haven and a great working base every time they host the F1 Superboats. Support from the Central Coast Advocate, NBN and Erina Fair, the Brian Hilton Motor Group, the Wyong Shire Council and the Greater Toukley Vision, makes putting on 'the fastest show on water' much easier and enjoyable and a big thanks, once again, goes to Star FM 104.5 as a media partner over the weekend. Take an up close look at an F1 Superboat at Erina Fair shopping Center and a chance to win $10,000.00 of your home loan. Although the boats don’t weigh that much, having Central Coast Cranes back again to help out with lifting duties, certainly eases the load off the minds of the crews plus seeing a boat in the air provides a unique perspective for the public.
