‘Starlo’ upgrades his rig
|
Prominent fishing writer and television presenter, Steve Starling, has upgraded his personal fishing equipment with the acquisition of a 17’ flats skiff fishing boat powered by a 115 four-stroke Yamaha outboard. “Starlo”, as he’s widely known, has long been part of the fishing and boating scene, from pioneering soft plastic lures and bream tournaments to his roles as a television presenter and journalist. Why Yamaha for his new rig? “I ran a Yamaha 115hp on my previous boat and it never missed a beat,” he recalled. “This particular model outboard provides the exact mix of performance, economy and quiet operation that I demand, backed by Yamaha’s proven reliability. “First turn of the key and the engine starts, every time, regardless of weather conditions or how long it has been sitting idle,” he added. The new boat for Starling is a low profile, 17-foot centre console geared for barra and bream fishing when manoeuvrability and an uncluttered deck for casting space are demanded. Broad coamings, endless stowage, ultra shallow draft and simplicity of layout make the boat a formidable rig for lake, estuary and other flat water fishing environments. The stepped hull design is a perfect match to the 115 Yamaha outboard. A unique feature of the boat is a US fly fishing-inspired aft casting/poling platform. Positioned above the outboard engine, this ‘tower’ provides an ideal vantage point for spotting fish and allows an angler to cast a line unimpeded by others on board. We’re not sure when next ‘Starlo’ will be hunting fish from his new rig, but somehow I think we’ll be hearing all about it somewhere, sometime, somehow.
