After their fifth win in a row Maritimo’s 19 year old driver Tom Barry-Cotter, the young champion, and his 32 year old Norweigen throttleman Pals Verik Nielson were thrown into the water by their Maritimo support crew.

Dripping, they were pulled from the water by Luke Durman and Ross Williton, the crew of the second placed boat Simrad.

Barry-Cotter said 'The atmosphere was great today. That was the best race I've ever done! Very much like the top races in Europe...better even than Arendal in Norway, which is considered better than any other on the World circuit.

‘The harbour course was tight but that suited us. Our boat has wider sponsons and a narrow tunnel so it is a good cornering boat. Mind you we lose a little on the straights.’

Luke Duman the driver of the runner up Simrad, was all smiles as he climbed out of the cockpit and came ashore.

‘It was fantastic racing. Thank you to Sydney for turning out... it was great to have such a huge success, considering what led up to it. The number of spectator boats was impressive and we could see crowds everywhere.

‘We saw sky a couple of times. There was quite a bit of chop heading up towards Sow & Pigs. With 20/20 hindsight we should have gone up a prop, we might have been able to hold onto Maritimo a little better. But I don't think we could have held them.

‘Through the big long sweeper below Shark Island we were sliding sideways while they were going round on rails. They really have that boat going beautifully.’
